Uju Anya has been awarded a Duolingo fellowship to work at Duolingo headquarters and a local Pittsburgh public school to examine Duolingo Spanish and French tests with teachers and students in an educational setting.
Felipe Gómez has been awarded the 2022 Martin Schüwer Prize for outstanding comics research for the article “Will it be possible? Apocalypse and Resistance in Latin American Graphic Novels,” presented by The Society for Comics Studies (ComFor) and the Committee for Comics Studies at the German Society for Media Studies (GfM).
Candace Skibba has published Trauma-Informed Pedagogy, which brings visibility to perpetuated violence and silence through a range of genres, including poetry, syllabi, and critical reflections, offering an invaluable resource for instructors and workshop facilitators interested in approaches that decentralize learning spaces and empowers all participants.
Kenya Dworkin has been awarded a year-long National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) fellowship for her project, “Side by Side but not Eye to Eye: ‘Whiteness’ and the Performance of Race in Tampa Cuban Immigrant Theater, 1886-1960.”
The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation has funded Stephen Brockmann for research at the Freie Universität in Berlin in May, for work on his new project "The End of the GDR and the Paradox of Freedom."
Seth Wiener has been awarded a Dietrich College faculty seed grant for his project "Connecting CMU’s music of language with its language of music.“
Tatyana Gershkovich has received the William S. Dietrich II Career Development Chairs.The appointment, which lasts three years, comes with $10,000 per year in discretionary research funds.
Mame-Fatou Niang has been awarded the Melodia Jones Chair, a distinguished visiting position in the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures at the University of Buffalo, where she will be in residence during the Fall 2021 semester.
Mame-Fatou Niang is also the recipient of a Falk Grant for her research project titled, “Race and Remembrance in the 21st Century”.
