Share Your Voice: Belonging, Diversity and Inclusion at CMU

Dear Carnegie Mellon Students,

We are pleased to announce an upcoming opportunity to share your voice as a CMU student and to help university leadership more comprehensively understand students’ experiences related to individual sense of belonging as well as the diversity and inclusion of the campus environment. In partnership with the Office of Institutional Research and Analysis, which periodically surveys the student body, we invite you to participate in Tartan VOICES 2023: Our community. Our experience. Our voice.

Tartan VOICES 2023 incorporates campus diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging indicators researched and developed by the National Institute for Transformation and Equity. Results of this study will inform educational initiatives and planning in our continued efforts toward creating a campus environment that engages and supports students across all backgrounds and experiences.

On March 26, you will receive an email invitation to participate in Tartan VOICES 2023. CMU is committed to using data to improve our own educational practice while honoring the privacy of our students. Neither your name nor any other identifying information will be shared in the assessment reporting process.

To encourage the highest level of participation and to push toward a community response goal of 50%, we are offering incentives for completing Tartan VOICES 2023. Additional information regarding incentives will be shared in the coming days. The more feedback we receive, the stronger our data will be as we aim to learn more about the student experience, so we hope to hear from as many of you as we can.

Thank you for your participation. Your voice matters and we hope you will take the time to share your experiences with us through this study.

Sincerely,

Wanda Heading-Grant
Vice Provost for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and Chief Diversity Officer

Gina Casalegno
Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students
