COVID-19 Vaccination and/or Revaccination Guidelines
for both Domestic and International Students
Carnegie Mellon University requires all enrolled students to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19, effective this fall semester. This policy applies to all undergraduate and graduate students, as well as visiting, non-degree, guest, and cross-registered students, in U.S.-based programs and students participating in approved study abroad programs overseas. CMU faculty and staff members taking courses as a non-degree student must also be vaccinated.
In order to determine if you require additional vaccination, read the six statements below and select the one that fits your current vaccination status. Based on the information in the expanded guidance, be sure to complete any applicable steps needed.
You received all doses of an FDA-approved or authorized vaccine.
You fully meet the vaccine requirement and no additional doses are indicated at this time if you received the following:
- A single dose of Janssen;
- Two doses of Pfizer vaccine at appropriate intervals; or
- Two doses of Moderna vaccine at appropriate intervals.
You received one dose only (i.e. you are partially vaccinated) from either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine.
You do not fully meet the vaccine requirement.
- You are eligible to schedule an appointment for your second dose at the appropriate interval. Register your interest in an upcoming CMU on-campus vaccine clinic through the CMU COVID-19 Vaccine Registration system.
- Two weeks after receiving your second dose, you will be compliant.
You received all doses of a WHO-authorized vaccine.
You fully meet the vaccine requirement and no additional doses are indicated at this time if you received the following:
- Two doses of AstraZeneca (from one of the approved manufacturers listed below) at appropriate intervals:
- AstraZeneca/SKBioscience Co. (Republic of Korea)
- AstraZeneca/Serum Institute of India Pvt. Ltd., brand name Covishield
- AstraZeneca AB, EU, brand name Vaxzevria
- Two doses of Sinopharm (from the approved manufacturer listed below) at appropriate intervals:
- Beijing Institute of Biological Products (BIBP)
- Two doses of Sinovac at appropriate intervals
- Two doses of COVAXIN at appropriate intervals.
You received one dose only (i.e. you are partially vaccinated) of a WHO-authorized vaccine.
You do not fully meet the vaccine requirement.
- You are eligible to obtain a complete, FDA-approved or authorized COVID-19 vaccine series (i.e. Pfizer, Moderna or Janssen). Register your interest in an upcoming CMU on-campus vaccine clinic through the CMU COVID-19 Vaccine Registration system.
- You must wait a minimum of 28 days from the date of your WHO vaccine dose before obtaining your first FDA-approved or authorized dose.
- Two weeks after receiving your second dose, you will have met the requirement.
You received one or two doses of a non-WHO authorized vaccine.
You do not meet the vaccine requirement.
- You are eligible to obtain a complete, FDA-approved or authorized COVID-19 vaccine series (i.e. Pfizer, Moderna or Janssen). Register your interest in an upcoming CMU on-campus vaccine clinic through the CMU COVID-19 Vaccine Registration system.
- You must wait a minimum of 28 days from the date of your non-WHO vaccine dose before obtaining your first FDA-approved or authorized dose.
- Two weeks after receiving your second dose, you will have met the requirement.
You are not vaccinated and do not meet criteria for an exemption.
You do not meet the requirement.
- You are eligible to obtain a complete, FDA-approved or authorized COVID-19 vaccine series (i.e. Pfizer, Moderna or Janssen). Register your interest in an upcoming CMU on-campus vaccine clinic through the CMU COVID-19 Vaccine Registration system.
- Two weeks after receiving your second dose, you will have met the requirement.
