The university and OIE remain mindful about the potential impacts Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) guidance may have on our international students. The totality of SEVP guidance (issued between March 9 and July 24) provides Carnegie Mellon flexibility in maintaining active SEVIS records and continuing operations that are critical in supporting F-1 students, who are an integral part of the community. U.S. immigration status or a U.S. visa is not required for students who plan on taking courses remotely from outside the U.S.
Continuing students in SEVIS active status as of March 9, new/initial students located outside the U.S. and transfer students should review recent communications, a guidance summary and SEVP-issued guidance recap on the OIE website. Additionally, a list of frequently asked questions is updated as new information is available. We recommend checking OIE's website often for the latest updates and announcements.
