Identity Finder helps prevent identity theft by finding personally identifiable information (PII) on your computer, file shares or external media and providing you with tools to easily and quickly protect or securely dispose of it.
Eligibility & Cost
This software is eligible for faculty, staff, and students for use on university owned/managed equipment and personally owned computers. Licensing and downloading details are based on how your computer is managed:
- Personally owned computers: download, install, and upgrade this software using this software catalog. Licenses are limited to one per person.
- University owned and managed computers: contact your Departmental IT staff to download, install and upgrade this software. Departmental IT Staff should contact the Information Security Office (ISO) at firstname.lastname@example.org for a customized departmental installer. Unlimited licensing is available.
- Desktop Support Program (DSP) clients: contact DSP to download, install and upgrade this software. Unlimited licensing is available.
Install Identity Finder
Before you install:
- Review the specifications.
- If you have an older version of Identity Finder, do not uninstall it prior to installing the new version. This will preserve your settings and password vault.
- Double-click the downloaded file to launch the installation program.
- Follow the onscreen instructions.
- Once installed, continue with the Configure & Run Search steps.
This software will periodically contact servers in the Carnegie Mellon University Computing Services infrastructure to check for updates and configuration changes. In the process of doing so, the software will send one of two sets of information, depending on the download option you choose:
Information will only be sent if/when you are connected to the Carnegie Mellon University network or via VPN.
