Graduating Students: Prepare Your Tech for Your Next Steps!
Congratulations, Class of 2022! Remember, your Andrew account will expire after you graduate, so you’ll no longer be able to access Carnegie Mellon University resources. As you prepare to begin the next stage of your journey, make sure you move your email, cloud storage files, personal websites, and other work to another location.
Complete the steps below to ensure your tech is ready as you leave CMU.
1. Transfer your Files to a Personal Account
- Download files saved to CMU Box or Andrew File System (AFS) and transfer them to a personal account. (Your Google Drive files are downloaded when you use Google Takeout in Step 3.)
- Download any Zoom recordings you want to keep. Note: You can only download recordings from meetings where you were the host or those where the host has enabled downloads.
- Unpublish any web pages hosted in Andrew File System (AFS) and move them to a personal server or another hosting solution.
- Transfer your Adobe Creative Cloud creations from Adobe Cloud to personal cloud storage using Adobe's migration tool.
2. Uninstall CMU-Licensed Software
3. Transition your Email
When your Andrew account expires, all email activity stops, including mail forwarding. Ensure you have access to what you need by completing the list below.
Complete these steps before you graduate:
- If you use your Andrew email address to log in to social media, banking, or shopping sites, update your accounts to use a personal email or your alumni email address. You will not be able to access your Andrew email address after graduation.
Complete these steps after you graduate:
- Export your student Google account data – Request access to Google Takeout, then use Takeout to export your Google account data, including Mail, Calendar, Contacts, and Drive, to a zip file.
- After you graduate, you'll automatically have access to an alumni email account, @alumni.cmu.edu. Once your account is created, move your Andrew email to your new alumni account using the Alumni Mail Migration tool.
