Donahue to give Charney lecture at AGU
Lord University Professor Neil Donahue has been selected to give the Charney Lecture at the meeting of the American Geophysical Union this December. This is one of only two plenary named lectures of the Atmospheric Science section of the AGU.
"I am tremendously honored to be giving the Jule Charney Lecture,” says Donahue. "This is the 40th anniversary of the so-called Charney Report by the National Academy of Sciences, which laid out the fundamental science of climate change in 17 readable pages, and quantified the global effects of climate change. The predictions in that report hold true today, including the warning, 'A wait-and-see policy may mean waiting until it is too late.' Had we heeded that warning then and taken relatively gentle steps, we would not be faced with the need for dramatic and sudden decarbonization of the energy system now."
