2019 Gary Powers Memorial Scholarship Winners

Congratulations to ChemE undergraduates Lavonca Davis and Joseph Brauch, winners of the 2019 Gary Powers Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded each year to Junior Chemical Engineering students who are naturally curious, possess deep passion for the fundamentals of chemical engineering, and appreciate the engineer’s role in society.

This award was established to honor former Chemical Engineering professor Gary Powers, who served the department passionately for thirty years, before passing away in 2007. He was both an outstanding educator, and a leading researcher in process systems engineering, breaking new ground in process risk assessment and process synthesis. The scholarship is made possible by the generous collective donations of College of Engineering alumni, faculty and staff, as well as friends of the Powers family.
