Peng Receives Commendation for Excellence at Thrill Design Invitational

Junior Justin Peng was one of 127 students from 18 university teams who took competed in the Toronto Metropolitan University’s Thrill Design Invitational—presented by Universal Creative™.

Sanghavi Volunteers with EWB to Supply Clean Water, Infrastructure

Kavin Sanghavi (BS ‘16), a product manager at Booz Allen Hamilton, uses his engineering and project management experience to help others across the globe. As a member of the Engineers Without Borders (EWB) DC Professionals Chapter, he volunteers to create community-driven solutions that meet basic human needs.

Martinez Keeps Airport Projects Flying Forward

Arturo Martinez, PE, ENV SP (BS ’15; MS ’15) is an Aviation Project Manager at EXP, an engineering, architecture, design, and consulting firm with over 4,000 employees. He recently kicked off a project at Miami International Airport (MIA) that is still in its infancy and will keep him busy for a few years as he leads the airfield civil updates that will modify over 15 aircraft gates to accommodate bigger aircraft. These changes will support MIA’s continued growth.

ANSYS HALL: A Creative Epicenter

Fully opened in October 2019 as part of the College of Engineering’s larger maker ecosystem known as TechSpark, ANSYS Hall is a great boon for CEE courses. “What I can do with students just got bigger,” says Jim Thompson, who teaches the 12-401 Civil & Environmental Engineering Design capstone course.

Courses that create the CEE design thread provides students with opportunities across all four years to gain hands-on engineering experience and to apply what they’re learning in the core courses to actual projects.

Bram “Rethinks the Rink” for Hockey Player Safety

Rethink the Rink is a collaboration between the Pittsburgh Penguins, Covestro, Carnegie Mellon University College of Engineering, PPG, and Athletica Sport Systems. Students worked in teams of four at CMU's TechSpark and had hands-on coaching throughout the process
