Choi Awarded Smith Graduate Fellowship

PhD student Byeongseong Choi was recently awarded the Bradford and Diane Smith Graduate Fellowship. Choi earned his undergraduate and master's degrees in Civil and Environmental Engineering at Seoul National University, Korea.

Advised by professors Matteo Pozzi and Mario Bergés, he has developed probabilistic models to describe near-surface temperature to assess the heat-induced risk of an urban area.

"I am honored to be a recipient of Bradford and Diane Smith Graduate Fellowship, and I would like to thank the supporting committee, my advisors, and CEE," says Xiong. "This fellowship will help me continue to focus on my research."

The Bradford and Diane Smith fellowship was created through the generosity of Bradford Smith, a 1969 graduate of the College of Engineering, and his wife Diane, a 1971 graduate of the Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Sciences, to help support the graduate studies of highly deserving students in the College of Engineering (CMU).
