Zhang Awarded D'Applonia Fellowship
PhD Candidate Zhuoran Zhang was recently awarded the Dr. Elio D’Appolonia Graduate Fellowship.Zhuoran completed his undergraduate studies in 2017 at the Tsinghua University, China, with a Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Construction Management. He is currently advised by professors Burcu Akinci, Sean Qian and Daniel Armanios (EPP) and is researching quantitative approaches to enhance better planning and investment of infrastructure systems by considering costs associated with construction, traffic management and social aspects.
“It is a great honor I have been awarded Dr. Elio D'Appolonia Fellowship to support my graduate studies,” says Zhuoran. “I am very motivated by interdisciplinary research and making everyday life better through research.”
The Dr. Elio D’Appolonia Graduate Fellowship was established, with the generosity from the Devendra and Kshama Shukla Foundation, to recognize his impact on the department. Dr. Appolonia, was a CEE faculty member from 1948 to 1956 and truly helped to define and develop the multidisciplinary, creative problem-solving nature of civil engineering at CMU that remains a hallmark of the program.
