Rooney Receives Burritt Education Award
Director of Undergraduate Programs Andrea Francioni Rooney was awarded the Timothy J. Burritt award the 2015 College of Engineering Staff Recognition Awards.
Andrea joined the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in 2007 as Assistant to the Department Head. In 2012, she took on the role of Coordinator of Undergraduate Programs and Alumni Relations. In 2014 Andrea was promoted to Director of Undergraduate Programs, a role in which she is the administrative advisor of all of our undergraduate students, and in which she leads our CEE technical communications program.
Andrea has a BA from Carnegie Mellon in Creative Writing, which she held when she joined our department, and she earned a MA in Professional Writing studying as a part-time student over the past several years while maintaining full-time employment, graduating in May 2014.
The Timothy J. Burritt award was established in memory of Tim Burritt, former undergraduate advisor for the College of Engineering, worked diligently at completing his bachelor's degree at Duquesne University while excelling at his work duties. The criteria for the Burritt Education Award include maintenance of a balance of work and education, perseverance in quest for education, and enthusiasm for the value of continuing education.
