Strahs Awarded Smith Fellowship

Strahs Awarded Smith Fellowship CEE Doctoral student Lauren Strahs has been selected as a Bradford and Diane Smith Fellow. Lauren joined the department in 2012 after completing her undergraduate studies in civil engineering at the University of Michigan. Advised by the Duquesne Light Professor Jeanne VanBriesen and Kim Jones at Howard University.

Lauren's research looks to characterize, predict, and mitigate organic fouling that occurs with membrane treatment for desalination. This fellowship will help fund her final year as she completes her PhD research.

The Bradford and Diane Smith fellowship was created through the generosity of Bradford Smith, a 1969 graduate of the College of Engineering, and his wife Diane, a 1971 graduate of the Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Sciences, to help support the graduate studies of highly deserving students in the College of Engineering (CMU).
