Dzombak to Co-Chair National Academy Sustainability RoundtableHamerschlag University Professor and Head of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Dave Dzombak, has been appointed co-chair of the National Academies Roundtable on Science and Technology for Sustainability. The roundtable provides a forum for sharing views, information, and analyses related to harnessing science and technology for sustainability.
Roundtable's goal is to mobilize, encourage, and use scientific knowledge and technology to help achieve sustainability goals and to support the implementation of sustainability practices. Members include senior decision makers from academia, industry, government and non-profit organizations and are in the position to mobilize new strategies for sustainability.
In addition to Professor Dzombak, alumnus Wayne Balta (BS ‘82) also serves as a member of the roundtable. Balta, the vice president of corporate environmental affairs and product safety at IBM Corporation, oversees all of IBM's global intersections with the environment and sustainability along with energy efficiency, toxicology, chemical management, product safety and other regulated IT hardware compliance matters.
