Smart Infrastructure: Business Risks & Opportunities - Webinar

Recently CEE Professor Burcu Akinci was invited to participate as an expert panelist for a webinar hosted by Engineering New-Record (ENR) discussing the opportunities for smart infrastructure providers. The panelists discussed the Business Risks & Opportunities associated with constructing, operating and managing smart infrastructure systems.  Professor Akinci talked about the state of the art research that is being conducted within Civil and Environmental Engineering department and Smart Infrastructure Incubator at Carnegie Mellon University in relation to this topic.

Professor Akinci has led several projects within which she and her team have been leveraging a variety of sensors to generate semantically-rich information models and decision support systems to streamline the operations and maintenance of different types of infrastructure systems, such as bridges, dams and buildings. Earlier this year, Akinci named as the Co-Director of the Smarter Infrastructure Incubator (SII), an interdisciplinary research lab at CMU, which fosters the creation of technologies to help cities, government and industries worldwide develop smarter infrastructures.
