Cohon Joins CEE Faculty
President Emeritus and University Professor Jared L. Cohon has joined the CEE faculty after completing his tenure as CMU’s eighth president. An authority on environmental and water resource systems analysis, Cohon has worked on water resource problems in three continents, served as chairman to the federal Nuclear Waste Technical Review Board, and was appointed by two US presidents to the Homeland Security Advisory Council. He has been named a distinguished member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and is a member of both the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. This year he was named University Professor, the highest academic position university faculty members can achieve at CMU.
Cohon will be taking a sabbatical this year before joining CEE full time. He is considering using his year off to visit other universities with strong programs in his field, and looks forward to returning to his “true love,” teaching.
