The Career Peer Mentor Program

Career Peer Mentors (CPMs) are student employees at the Career and Professional Development Center (CPDC) who assist with many facets of the CPDC’s services.  Perhaps most apparently, CPMs work in the CPDC office during daily drop-in hours and are available to assist their peers with resume writing, internship or job searches, and using online career resources.

The CPDC has instituted the Careers for First Years program in which the CPMs are assigned to work with a population of first year students within the residential communities. The CPMs offer freshmen a series of career-related programs and hold regular office hours right in their own residence hall. The goal is to foster early career engagement and discovery and to help them develop a strong base of skills and materials for their future internships, student employment, or scholarship applications.

CPMs also work with upperclassmen by not only reviewing resumes and application materials, but also by creating and delivering personalized workshops for interested student organizations; holding SOS office hours in the evenings leading up to job fairs; supporting CPDC events; and contributing to the CPDC’s social media and marketing strategies.
