At CMU there are a number of facilities used for research in 2D materials and devices. An Exfoliation and Transfer Facility has been developed specifically for the fabrication of stacks of 2D layers, utilizing micron-sized flakes of materials that are formed by exfoliation from crystals of 2D layered materials. Transfer of the flakes (one on top of the other) is accomplished in this facility, thereby formed a complete heterostructure stack. Subsequent patterning of the stack, in order to form gates and contacts, is done in the CMU Nanofabrication Facility.
