How to Apply for IUPN-Explore

Eligibility

Students from all departments and all colleges are eligible to apply. No restriction is being made on the nature of the proposed research, the affiliation of the faculty advisor or other.

Register

All students and advisors connected to a project must REGISTER.  When registering, please udate any incorrect or missing information in your profile.  After you register as a student, you must "add a project" to register the IUPN proposal.  Please choose "IUPN" as the project type, then complete the remainder of the information.  You will also need to upload your proposal, statement, and letter of support.

The Application

Your application is your chance to tell us about your proposed research, why it's significant, and how you plan to use your IUPN-Explore grant. Your finished application will include:

  • 1 final draft of your proposal (2 pages max)
  • 1 final draft of a statement explaining how your proposed work contributes to the filed of nanoscience (1 page max)
  • 1 letter of support from your advisor

Application Deadline

Applications for participation in the fall semester should be received by September 1st, for participation in the fall semester and January 10th for participation in the spring semester. In exceptional cases proposals will also be accepted outside this window.

Selection Process

Selection will be primarily based upon proposal evaluation, academic standing and faculty support letter. Each proposal will be evaluated by faculty members affiliated with CNXT and CEINT and students will receive written feedback about the evaluation with tips on how to improve in case that no award can be made. We expect to make eight to nine awards per year.

For questions regarding the application and selection process please contact the IUPN faculty advisor Michael Bockstaller (bockstaller@cmu.edu).
