Samuel Green appointed first Poet Laureate of the state of Washington Samuel Green has lived for most of his life in the Pacific Northwest. He received an M.A. in English from Western Washington University and has been a visiting poet in colleges in Utah, Wyoming, and Washington. Currently he is a visiting poet at Seattle University where he teaches in Seattle and in Ireland. He has published ten books of poetry, and his poems have appeared in Prairie Schooner, Poetry, Poetry Northwest, and many other magazines. He and his wife Sally live on a remote island off the Washington coast. Samuel Green was recently appointed the first Poet Laureate of the state of Washington by Governor Chris Gregoire.
