Reviews

These poems are surprising not only in the ways that poems of any new, authentic talent heard and presented with its own clarity and cadence, are surprising. Besides the sharp presence of their language, they unfold with the surprise of good stories—stories of the poet's own remembered and imagined life, and of other imaginary existences. One finds out what the balancing acts are, step by step. It is a daring, generous first book.

—W.S. Merwin

Robin Seyfried's bright, ironic view lights a varied country of social comment, unexpected musical interlude, sudden heartbreak. The effect is powerful; you will like these intricate, intelligent poems.

—Diana O'Hehir

In the language of timeless imagery, Seyfried weaves the dark and light sides of love. Her poems are both grounded and buoyant. . . . The details are sensual and direct, a voice full of wit and charm that keeps the reader "somehow landing," listening to "the music the lift" of these fine poems.
