Wednesday, September 21: Remembering Hiroshima, Imagining Peace 2011 exhibit

The exhibit includes art, political cartoons, and Japanese comic books and runs through November 18.
The exhibit located in Hunt Library, 4th floor
A Dessert reception will kick-off the exhibit at 4:30 pm, Hunt Library, Maggie Murph Café, 1st floor

Sunday, September 25: Barefoot Gen 1

Sunday, October 2: Barefoot Gen 2

This two-part anime film series is based on the popular semiautobiographical manga of Keiji Nakazawa. The films follow 6-year old Gen after the bombing of his home city, Hiroshima.  Doherty Hall 2315. 7:00 pm.

Sunday, October 2: Mahatma Gandhi Birthday Celebration

University of Pittsburgh, Frick Fine Arts Auditorium, 3:00-5:00 pm.

Lecture: “Gandhi’s Legacy of ‘Satyagraha’ in the Modern World”
This community event will include cultural performances, interfaith presentations and a talk by Dr. Uma Majmudar, Ph.D., a Gandhian researcher and published author based in Atlanta, GA.

Sponsored by the Alliance for Humanitarian Initiatives, Nonviolence and Spiritual Advancement (AHINSA), Carnegie Mellon University and various other Pittsburgh organizations. This event will celebrate Mahatma Gandhi as a global humanitarian figure.

Gandhi Jayanti (National Holiday celebrated in India to mark the occasion of the birthday of Mohandas Gandhi, the "Father of the Nation.")

Presented by multicultural student organizations OM & Mayur-SASA. There will be a series of events focusing on Be the Change to commemorate Gandhi’s birthday and his legacy.

  • Thursday, September 29: Screening of Gandhi, 1982 Oscar-winning film
  • September 29, 30 & October 2: Be the Change wristbands and Gandhi T-shirts
  • Friday, October 7: Sri Venkateswara Temple trip
  • Friday, October 14: Garba event (bus departs from UC Turnaround)
