What will you do with your life?
Chad Varga, Thursday, January 28, 2010
4:30pm, Porter Hall 100 (Gregg Hall)

Professional basketball player, Chad Varga, seemed to have it all; a large six-figure offer on the table, endorsement contracts and adoring fans. But he wanted to do more than just dribble a ball. So, at the height of his career, at the peak of his physical abilities, at age 25, he left the professional basketball leagues of Europe to start a non-profit organization, Inspire Now, to help kids.
Why did this exceptional athlete leave the fame and fortune of professional basketball to start his life over with nothing? Because he had a secret! His own childhood had been a life of living hell. His mother was an alcoholic and drug addict who took Chad and his sister along for the ride on her wild and often violent binges. She was continually in and out of his life because of her addictions and a prison term for drug smuggling. Chad, his sister and father moved 17 times in his first 18 years. But, Chad overcame his difficulties to become a star player at the University of Pittsburgh and then in Europe.
Chad Varga will tell his inspiring and amazing story at CMU, just as he has to over 1.5 million young people in America, encouraging us to live up to our potential, find ways to help others and choose the right path for our lives. Make plans to hear Chad Varga; you will hear a story you will NEVER forget!
