Matt Calman, Senior Vice President and Innovation Executive at Bank of America, will discuss the practicalities of leading innovation in a large company and the human empowerment systems needed to free up creativity.

Mr. Calman leads the Enterprise Innovation Lab, the Innovation Community of Practice and the Firebrands network. His work also connects with the MIT Center for Future Banking and China Construction Bank.

Mr. Calman joined the bank in 1986 in Corporate Trust and has led teams in information technology, project management, strategy and process design. In 2002 he was certified as the bank’s ninth Six Sigma Blackbelt.

Mr. Calman was the business champion and process design executive for the Bank’s “Check 21” architecture, including inter-bank check image exchange and the transaction engine for Deposit Image ATMs. He founded multiple industry workgroups focused on business and technical standards for emerging image transaction technologies.

In his current role, Calman unites innovation practices and assets across the enterprise to drive both cultural change and new customer offerings. He has authored sixteen patents and was named Bank of America’s first Inventor of the Year in 2008.

Mr. Calman was an undergraduate engineer at Carnegie-Mellon University and earned his master’s degree from Georgia State University’s Executive MBA program in 1999.
