It is fashionable to divorce science from exploration, but in my life they have always been intertwined.  One of my secondary school teachers said to me while I was between space missions, “Your life has gone in one straight line from the time you were interested in model rockets until now, when you climb aboard the real thing.”  My reality has not been anything like that linear perception, and both emotional and rational ways of thinking continue to guide me.
