Dick Tucker-University Lecture Series - Carnegie Mellon University

A Journey through Languages

October 15, 2007: Dick Tucker

Dick Tucker

Paul Mellon University Professor of Applied Linguistics
and former Head, Department of Modern Languages

I will reflect upon the challenges and the opportunities that I encountered as I have moved figuratively and literally over the past 40 years from Canada to Southeast Asia, to the Middle East, to Washington, DC and finally, in 1992, to Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University while I tried, at each step along the way, to contribute to the creation of “language competent” societies.

The University Lecture Series is a partnership between the Office of the Vice Provost for Education and the Division of Student Affairs.  All lectures are free and open to the public.  All lectures are on Carnegie Mellon’s Oakland campus.
