Research & Programs
Carnegie Mellon offers many opportunities for academic enrichment and research during the summer months. These programs are designed to meet the academic needs of CMU students and visiting students by providing a wealth of services dedicated to academic achievement. Students have the opportunity to have a seamless educational experience that does not end in the classroom. In collaboration with other departments and organizations, these opportunities facilitate students' individual growth and development, helping them to reach and often surpass their academic goals.
Some of the following programs are for CMU students only, however, a few opportunities are offered to visiting students, as well.
CMU Students Only
Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships (SURF): The SURF program awards $3,500 to Carnegie Mellon undergraduate students for 8-10 weeks of full-time summer research in any field of study.
Summer (re)CHARGE Program: This is a collaborative, campus-wide initiative designed to ensure that all CMU students are able to maximize their opportunities and take advantage of all that Carnegie Mellon has to offer. The program is for rising sophomores and juniors who meet certain criteria and complete the required application materials and reference forms.
