JFC Representatives-Student Government - Carnegie Mellon University

JFC Representatives

Student Body Vice President for Finance

Jon

Jon Mark

Jon has been involved in Student Senate since fall of his freshman year, joining the first day and sticking with it ever since. At the time, Senate was thrilled to have a CFA person joining, as there were so few (well, none) that were currently serving. They welcomed Jon with open arms and a big heart, and he immediately felt like part of the family.

Jon started his Senate Career as a member of Finance Committee, where he began learning about the magic of Student Government's Fiscal Policy. In his sophomore year, Jon took a break from Finance Committee to serve on the Business Affairs Committee in the fall, and managed to get elected chair for the spring semester in a landslide victory in an uncontested election (pattern?). During this semester, Jon took charge of the Collegiate Readership Program, paved the road for many Campus Initiatives, and enacted a Campus Service Liaison Program to ensure Ongoing Student Auditing into CMU services (like FMS, parking, HDS, etc).

In his Junior year, Jon was Finance Committee Chairman, and led a large financial reform which included Greater Financial Accountability and transparency with senate's budget and spending, a new Expedited Allocations Process to decrease time spent in general body meetings on funding motions, New Allocation Information Forms (AIFs) that provide a richer documented picture of what senate's money is being spent on, & Improved Communication between senate and the campus service providers most often funded by special allocations. All of this work on Finance Committee and as a 2011-2012 JFC Rep grew his depth of knowledge about Stugov finances, and led to his decision to run for the SBVPF role.

Jon is currently a senior lighting design major in the school of drama, with a minor in Business Administration. When he isn't creating the magic of theatre, or battling with Excel to fulfill his SBVPF responsibilities, chances are you'll find him with one of the other student activities he is involved with (AB Tech & SCC), playing trivia or world domination based board games, taking on projects to improve his awesome basement, exploring abandoned buildings, or really anything that leads to a ridiculous story (which he has a lot of).

Jon likes to think of himself as pretty approachable, so flag him down if you have a question or e-mail him at sbvpf@andrew.cmu.edu if he can help you in any way!

Bianka is a senior pursuing a degree in Materials Science and Biomedical Engineering. She currently serves as the Chair of the Undergraduate Student Senate. He is an active member of the Asian Christian Fellowship on campus and regularly attends either Pittsburgh Chinese Church or Northway Community Church on Sundays. He likes to be very organized and neat in everything he does, yet always keeps a "mush" pile for random-hard-to-organize things. He is from New York. Asians are cool.
