Legal Resources for Graduate Students

  1. The Allegheny County Bar Association has a Legal Referral Service.  This service allows the user to identify an attorney who practices in the necessary area of law.  At a much discounted rate ($30 for a half hour consultation), the user can meet with the attorney to discuss the problem and decide if additional action is warranted.  After the initial consultation, regular billing rates apply.  This service can be found here: https://www.acba.org/LRX_online.LRX.
  2. Graduate Students may qualify for legal assistance in civil matters from The Neighborhood Legal Services Association.  See http://www.nlsa.us/utility/contact_nlsa.html for more information.
  3. The Office of International Education is a resource for legal issues regarding immigration and international student issues. http://www.studentaffairs.cmu.edu/oie/admins/handoutpdfs/immapp.pdf
