Campus Affairs Committee
The Campus Affairs committee, led by the VP for Campus Affairs, advocates for graduate student interests on the CMU campus. Members of the committee sit on various other committees throughout campus, listed below. Additionally, the committee meets to discuss issues affecting graduate students as they arise and to plan initiatives to improve graduate student life.
External Committees
GSA has members on the following committees external to GSA:
Athletics Liaison - Liases with the Athletics Department.
Campus Computing Advisory Committee / Office of Technology for Education - This committee focuses on computing needs around campus. Folks meet x1 a year.
Campus Police Liasion - Liases with the Campus Police.
Career SAC - The Career and Professional Development Student Advisory Committee is under new leadership, and is excited to gather student input on the exciting new ideas and initiatives they would like to implement.
Constitution Committee - This committee will work with Ruth on updating the GSA constitution, bylaws, etc
CoSO - The Committee on Student Organizations helps new organizations on campus get off the ground. More info can be found here: http://www.studentaffairs.cmu.edu/StudentActivities/info/coso.html Fall is the busiest time as new orgs are getting together. CoSO meets once/week in the Fall but less often in the Spring.
Design Review - Discusses the future of the CMU campus outlay.
Dining/Housing Services - Works on the food options available around campus, both in dorms and in other spaces (eg Skibo).
Elections Board - The Elections Board is in charge of running the Student Body Elections and making sure they follow election rules. The busiest time for this committee is mid-March through mid-April when we have elections.
Enrollment Services - The new Director of Enrollment Services (Lisa Krieg) wants student input. Her main areas cover the University Registrar, Student Accounts, Financial Aid Services, the HUB, and the Card Office.
Environment, Health & Safety / Healthy Campus 2010 - This committee is focused on working with CMU to provide a healthier/safer campus. They have just completed the new smoking rules, and are now working with athletics.
Facilities Maintenance Services (FMS) - FMS is just starting their student advisory committee and is currently looking for ways to solicit feedback from grad students. They also plan to work with departmental FMS coordinators to impact department-specific issues.
Faculty Senate - Faculty Senate meets once a month. Past agendas, minutes, upcoming schedules, etc. can be found here: https://www.cmu.edu/faculty-senate/index.html
Green Practices - In 1998, the Green Practices Committee was established to develop a more comprehensive waste reduction and energy conservation program. The committee, which is comprised of staff, faculty and students, establish priorities, goals, and mechanisms for implementing environmental practices.
Health Care/Health Services - This committee seeks to improve health insurance and level of care provided at CMU medical.
Healthy Campus 2010 - Aims to promote healthy lifestyles at CMU. Recently helped strengthen no smoking laws.
Joint Funding Committee (JFC) - The JFC determines budgets for organizations. JFC reps will have ~10 organizations (hopefully) they get to know and work with and help determine budget decisions. JFC meets once a week in the Spring, but less often in the Fall.
Parking Advisory Board - The PAB works on issues about parking around campus including parking rates, security (in parking areas), and transportation alternatives (i.e. ZipCar). They meet ~3 times/semester.
Public Art Committee - Helps make decisions about public art around campus. There are three meetings/year.
Sexual Assault Advisor - This isn't really a committee, but you can serve as a volunteer to help counsel victims of sexual assault. There are 15-20 hours of training to get you prepped. There is a preference for women to serve in this role.

Student Safety Advisory Committee - The Student Safety Advisory Committee will meet once a month to discuss and promote awareness of safety issues on campus.
Transportation Advisory Board - Works to ensure the CMU transportation system (shuttles, escort service, etc) fits the needs of its riders.
University Center - Works with the UC to maintain a friendly relationship. Still checking with Carolyn on this one.
University Education Council - Deals with education on campus.
University Stores Committee - This committee covers the bookstore and art store in the UC. They are also just getting started.
University Student Affairs Council - USAC meets about once a month during the school year and sees various presentations about student life (police, housing, health services, interactions on campus, etc.). The committee than shares their reactions to the these presentations.
