Parking and Transportation Services provides high quality parking and transportation resources to the campus community including options for students, faculty, staff and campus visitors. Offering well-maintained, safe and secure parking areas is a top priority. Parking & Transportation Services also encourages the campus community to consider alternative transportation options to get to and from campus including biking, carpooling, vanpooling, walking or utilizing public transportation. Carnegie Mellon and Port Authority Transit (PAT) have an agreement by which students, faculty and staff may ride any PAT bus vehicle without charge with a valid university ID.
The university's goals for parking are to allocate the resource in a reasonable way among the members of the university community and to provide support services for people who have purchased access to campus parking facilities. There are four categories by which parking requests are assigned priority including tenured faculty/senior level staff, other faculty/staff, commuter students, and residential students. Student categories are allocated in order by class, starting with graduate students, and then by the date the application is received. A computerized allocation system assigns spaces. Parking and Transportation Services accepts payment by payroll deduction (for faculty and staff only), cash, check, student accounts, PlaidCa$h and MasterCard or Visa.
