The Intercultural Communication Center is a support service offering both credit and non-credit classes, workshops, and individual appointments designed to equip nonnative English speakers (international students as well as students who attended high school in the U.S.) with the skills needed to succeed in academic programs at Carnegie Mellon. In addition to developing academic literacy skills such as speaking, reading and writing, students can learn more about the culture and customs of the U.S. classroom. The center offers:
- Writing Clinic: designed to help students with their academic writing assignments
- Credit class for undergraduates: Building Fluency for Presentations (7 week mini, 99-451); register through ICC, interview required
- Non-credit Seminars and workshops, such as: Citing Sources, Writing Academic Summaries and Revising for Clarity
- The ITA Test: a mandatory screening test for any non-native speaker of English (graduate or undergraduate) who plans to work as a teaching assistant
