Congratulations on your acceptance to Carnegie Mellon! By now, you should be thinking about preparing for this fall. We have gathered some information that will help in making sure you have everything for your on-campus computing needs. Please review this page before you make any purchases.

Networking Essentials 

Items you will need to get connected to the campus network

Pass-Through - $19	Ethernet Cable 7 Foot -  $5
The following residence halls will require the use of a pass-through: Doherty Apts. Hamerschlag McGill House Morewood Gardens Mudge House Resnick Shirley Apts. Spirit House Tech House West Wing	Cat5e Ethernet Cables connect from the Pass-Through in the wall to your computer's 10/100 network card. Most students find the 14' or 25' cable to be a suitable length for their dorm room.

Academic Products

Most products offered through Computer Sales are items intended by the manufacturer for use exclusively within the academic market. In most cases, the software is Fully Packaged Product (FPP) and is exactly the same as the full retail product sold by the non-education retailer, the only difference being the price. Our contractual relationship with software and hardware manufacturers strictly requires that you qualify to purchase academic products.

Hardware

Last year freshman preferred laptops. Over half of freshmen either brought a laptop from home or purchased one before the end of their freshman year. Lenovo, Dell and Apple offer fast, powerful and economical notebooks to meet your on-campus computing needs.

Software

Accessories/Peripherals

These are all the little things that are often forgotten about during the mad rush of back-to-school. Don't worry, we've got you covered! Printers, ink, paper, printer cables, surge protectors, telephone cords, media, cases, laptop bags, iPod accessories, etc. are all things you may need to be completely ready for class. A few tips:

• Most printers do not include the USB cable
• Included ink cartridges are typically only starter carts; you may consider purchasing full back-ups

How to Order

PLACE YOUR ORDER NOW 

The last day to place all pre-orders is Wednesday, July 30, 2008. No pre-orders can be processed after this time.

The last day we can ship orders is Friday, August 1, 2008. We cannot guarantee you will receive your order before you arrive on campus if we ship after this date.

After placing your order, a sales consultant will contact you for the following information.

• Your Visa or MasterCard number and expiration date. *Sorry, we CANNOT accept Discover or American Express.*
• Your shipping address & billing address if you would like us to ship your products to you before you arrive on campus.
• Your Residence Hall assignment (for a Pass-through, or not) 
• Computer model, e.g. IBM T61 ThinkPad, if bringing one to campus.
