Andrea Dominguez is a senior at CMU studying Civil Engineering with a minor in Environmental and Sustainability Studies (ESS). As a CEE student, the ESS minor profoundly influenced Andrea’s academic journey, shifting their focus beyond technical aspects toward the societal impacts of infrastructure. Exposure to environmental injustices prompted pursuit of more courses that would enrich her understanding of sustainable development. Driven by a desire to contribute meaningfully to communities, she aspires to integrate these perspectives into her career as a structural engineer, championing projects that improve existing conditions and uphold societal well-being.

Engaging with a diverse cohort in ESS classes has also been particularly enriching for Andrea. Her interactions with peers from various disciplines has provided valuable insights into global sustainability issues, offering a deeper understanding of the historical and policy dimensions shaping infrastructure worldwide.
