CMUSV Faculty Presents at MobiHealth 2011
Patricia Collins Presenting at MobiHealth 2011
Professor Patricia Collins served as a co-chair and presenter for the 2nd annual ICST Conference on Wireless Mobile Communication and Healthcare (MobiHealth 2011), held in Kos, Greece, October 5-7, 2011. Professor Collins’ session focused on Mobile and Wireless Technologies for Healthcare Delivery and Emergency. Her paper entitled, "An Interdisciplinary Approach to Emergency Responder Mobile Technology Design" was written in collaboration with Sean Lanthier, a 31-year-veteran firefighter/paramedic.
"Our presentation was the only one that focused on requirements methods, in the context of understanding emergency medical services needs," noted Collins. The paper was a result of one of the classes Collins teaches at the Silicon Valley campus, Requirements Engineering.
"For my Requirements Engineering course, I teamed with our Disaster Management Initiative (DMI) to create a project for our students that met the very real needs of first-responders in disaster situations. The result was quite a success for the stakeholders, as well as for the students," continued Collins. "The paper focused on the use of the interdisciplinary requirements engineering approaches that we teach, as applied to emergency medical services technology."
