Toyota hackathon rewards Driver Karma app with People's Choice award

Congratulations to Ira Jain (MS SE) and her teammates Piyush Kothari, Eldar Khalliulin and Suyog Kotecha, who won the People's Choice award at the Toyota Quantified Car Hackathon in November. Toyota released an alpha version of its real-time In-Vehicle Data API to the mobile developer community to see what they could create for iOS and Android devices.

Ira's team developed Driver Karma: It Pays to be a Good Driver, a social mobile application and website that scores drivers based on their behavior, using feedback from the vehicle to rank their acceleration, signaling and "green" driving habits. It can also provide scores about the vehicle, to provide helpful information for mechanics or buyers, and can connect with other enabled cars and services to offer deals to drivers.
