Silicon Valley Students Paint Fence in Pittsburgh
Traditionally painted by students at the Pittsburgh campus, the fence on the Cut was painted the night before commencement by students from Carnegie Mellon's Silicon Valley campus. Silicon Valley students typically graduate in August, but graduating students are invited to the main campus commencement. Those that painted the fence, joined by faculty and alum Todd Sedano, left an invitation for Pittsburgh campus students to paint their fence in Silicon Valley, by way of coordinates, "Come, paint our fence, 37°24′54″N 122°02′54″W."

Eager to start their own fence-painting, the Carnegie Mellon Silicon Valley Class of 2008 purchased and painted a fence for the Silicon Valley campus to thank the university, and as part of their legacy allow future students to 'paint the fence'.
