Title: Smarter Traveler: Forecasting safer and faster routes using traffic prediction and individual commuter travel history
In this talk we will showcase collaboration with the California State Department of Transportation (Caltrans) and the California Center for Innovative Transportation (CCIT) focused on developing an intelligent transportation solution called Smarter Traveller. This effort combines a predictive traffic modeling tool with a personal travel log based on GPS-enabled cell phones in order to learn preferred travel routes and deliver targeted, personalized alerts to commuters before their trip begins. We look at Smarter Traveler as an example of a large-scale service system and will discuss this exciting initiative from a technical, economic, environmental and business perspective.
