Overview: 

Dr. Matthias Eck is a member of the Carnegie Mellon Silicon Valley research staff. Since joining Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh in 2003, Dr. Eck has done extensive research on statistical machine translation. His main research topics include language portability to rapidly support new language pairs and machine translation on small, mobile devices. He is very interested in the deployment of translation systems and overcoming limitations that prevent their successful use. Other research areas are model/domain adaptation, translation of unknown words and class based translation. Dr. Eck has worked on the TIDES, PF-STAR, STR-DUST, GALE and TRANSTAC projects, developing translation systems for various languages, domains and devices and has been involved in the organization of the IWSLT evaluation campaigns.
