Overview:
Art Botterell is an expert practitioner in the field of emergency information and public warning systems, with more than four decades' experience in government public safety and disaster response and who also has extensive private sector and media experience. He conceived and led the development of the international Common Alerting Protocol interoperability standard (ITU recommendation x.1303). He was a member of the U.S. Federal Communications Commission’s design panel for wireless emergency alerts and has served on a number of study panels for the National Academies of Science.
Mr. Botterell has designed, deployed and operated a variety of advanced public warning and emergency public information systems for the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency and Department of Defense as well as for state and local agencies and the United Nations Development Program. He has consulted on national-level disaster management systems in the U.S., Asia, Australia, Europe and the Caribbean. In addition Mr. Botterell has experience as a journalist, a radio and television producer, and an award-winning Internet content producer.
