What student health insurance options are available in Silicon Valley?
Carnegie Mellon Student Medical Insurance
CMU offers students the opportunity to purchase medical, dental and vision coverage through Aetna. It is highly encouraged that all students have health insurance.
Carnegie Mellon's medical, vision and dental student insurance plan(s) run August 1 through the following July 31 each year. Enrollment and waiver options will be accessed through your SIO (Student Information Online) as of July 1, 2014 and will be submitted through Aetna's online portal.
What leisure activities are available near campus?
NASA Exploration Center - The NASA Ames Exploration Center, where visitors can experience NASA technology and missions first hand, recently added a number of fresh and exciting exhibits open to the public at no charge. Located at the main gate to NASA Ames at Moffett Field just off US 101, the NASA Exploration Center has welcomed more than 150,000 visitors in its first year and has inspired tens of thousands of schoolchildren to become the next generation of space explorers. Ping Pong Table and Foosball Table - Carnegie Mellon Silicon Valley community members are welcome to use the community Ping Pong and Foosball tables located on the 1st floor Open Space. Please refrain from using the tables when eduational events are taking place in the Open Space.
Chase Park - Located on the corner of Girard and Dailey Roads, this park features BBQ grills, vollebyall nets, basketball court, horseshoe rings and baseball field. For reservations, all 650-604-1286.
Swimming Pool - Located at Westcoat and corner of Bailey Road, the NASA Swimming Pool features a) 25 Meter heated outdoor swimming pool, b) fitness and Exercise Equipment, c) Locker rooms with showers and saunas, d) Picnic area with wood gazebo, and e) Volleyball setup. Hours for Adult lap swimming are M,W,F 10am -1 pm, 3-6pm and T,TH - 10am - 1pm, 4-7pm. A Single Yearly Membership is $60/yr; daily entrance fee - $3 for members, $5 for non-members. Stevens Creek Trail- Stevens Creek Trail is currently open from Shoreline at Mountain View to Yuba Drive. The trail provides users multiple experiences through woodlands, tidal marshes and city neighborhood parks. The trail is open from dawn to dusk.
