Academic Culture and Communication - Silicon Valley-Silicon Valley Campus - Carnegie Mellon University

Academic Culture and Communication

July 13 – August 20, 2015

Academic Culture and Communication at Silicon Valley (ACC-SV) is an intensive summer program designed for non-native English speakers entering Carnegie Mellon University graduate programs each Fall. At ACC-SV, you will improve your academic English language skills before classes start, with help from our expert staff in writing, reading and pronunciation. We will also help you learn more about working and living in Silicon Valley.

  • Practice English in formal and informal situations
  • Strengthen pronunciation and presentation skills — particularly beneficial for those with lower TOEFL speaking scores
  • Receive guidance with graduate level reading and writing
  • Learn how different classes are taught in American universities and how you will be expected to participate
  • Meet other students from different CMU-SV programs in a relaxed, social environment
  • Make the acquaintance of CMU-SV faculty before courses begin
  • Experience the unique culture of Silicon Valley
  • Discuss career opportunities with entrepreneurs, CMU alumni, faculty and industry experts
  • Visit local companies like Google, Quixey and others to meet CMU-SV graduates currently working in Silicon Valley
