Celebrations
The faculty, students and staff at Carnegie Mellon Silicon Valley are committed to providing a friendly and inviting atmosphere, which encourages innovation and collaboration. There are numerous celebrations and events throughout the year as showcased below in our photo slideshows.
2012
August 12 - Graduation: Class of 2012
CMUSV celebrated its 650th graduate, along with 62 others, at its 10th graduation ceremony.
August 11 - 3rd Annual Tech Showcase and Alumni BBQ
Hundreds descended upon SV campus to reconnect with fellow alumni and discover the new and exciting research being performed.
June 9 - CMUSV Celebrates 10 Years!
Hundreds gathered to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Carnegie Mellon University's Silicon Valley Campus. Read more.
2011
August 7 - Graduation
89 graduates and their friends and families descended upon CMUSV for the 9th annual graduation ceremony. Adrian Ott was the keynote speaker.
August 6 - Tech Showcase and Alumni BBQ
The 2nd Annual Tech Showcase and Alumni BBQ saw over 200 guests discover research performed by students and faculty. There were over 40 posters and demos shown at the Tech Showcase.
April 16 - Carnival West
CMUSV welcomed 66 Alumni and current students from various schools; including CIT, CFA, H&SS, MCS, SCS, ETC and the Silicon Valley; with an equal number of spouses, friends and children to its first ever Carnival event. Carnival games included volleyball, badminton, croquet, horseshoes, a KidZone area with coloring, sidewalk chalk, bubbles, the Carnival Express, remote controlled train, balloon animal and, of course popcorn and cotton candy.

August 8 - Graduation
Eighty-one students from Carnegie Mellon Silicon Valley’s Master of Science in Software Engineering and Software Management programs received their diplomas on Sunday, August 8, in a ceremony with over 350 people in attendance. Read more.
August 7 - Alumni BBQ & Technology Showcase
Approximately 250 people attended the Alumni BBQ and Technology Showcase. The Technology Showcase allowed students and faculty to present their current research projects to alumni and members of the Silicon Valley community. At the BBQ, new graduates, past alumni, current students and faculty involved in the Technology showcase, and distinguished members of the Silicon Valley community enjoyed a sunny afternoon with delicious fare!
June 17 - New Admitted Student Reception
Admitted students gathered at an informal reception to connect with faculty, staff, alumni and current students to learn more about Carnegie Mellon Silicon Valley.
May 15-16 - The Gathering
The Class of 2010 reconnected with classmates, faculty and staff to review and reflect on current issues in the industry.
May 5 - Cinco de Mayo Luncheon
A mexican cuisine feast and candy-filled piñata were the highlights of the celebration of Mexican heritage and pride on Cino De Mayo.
April 3 - 2nd Annual Easter Egg Hunt
The 2nd Annual Easter Egg Hunt at Carnegie Mellon Silicon Valley was attended by over 20 faculty, staff and students.
February 16 - Lunar New Year
Over 30 students, faculty, researchers and staff gathered to celebrate the Lunar New Year and the Year of the Tiger with food, Chinese calligraphy and more!
January 9-10 - The Gathering
The Class of 2010 reconnected with classmates, faculty and staff to review and reflect on current issues in the industry.
2009
October 26-28 - Halloween & Jack-o-Lantern Carving Celebration
Students, faculty and staff got into the Halloween spirit by carving pumpkins.
October 21 - Diwali Celebration
Students, faculty and staff joined together on Wednesday, October 21, to celebrate the Indian festival Diwali. Students decorated the campus with elaborate sand art drawings and candle lights in preparation for the event. The student affairs office provided Indian cuisine and students ate, danced and enjoyed time together with faculty and staff.
August 20-23 - Fall Orientation
The Silicon Valley campus welcomed 96 students (88 Masters, 8 PhD) in sunny California August 20 - 23, 2009 at Moffett Field.
August 8 - 7th Annual Commencement
Over 50 students from 10 countries stepped to the stage to receive their hard-earned diplomas. They were led to the ceremony by a bagpiper in a kilt. The keynote speaker for the graduation ceremony was Liz King, a Vice-President and General Manager for Hitachi.
August 7 - Alumni Reception
The first alumni reception to be held at the Silicon Valley campus saw more than 100 alumni gather to reconnect with their peers and also to honor the Silicon Valley campus founder and departing dean, Jim Morris.
June 20 - An Evening of Impact and Innovation
Inspire Innovation, the Campaign for Carnegie Mellon University, makes its first tour stop at Carnegie Mellon Silicon Valley Campus for research demonstrations and presentations.
June 18 - New Student Reception
Over 60 incoming students, applicants in progress, faculty and staff attended our annual Open House Reception. The event increased enthusiasm for the incoming students and gave them a chance to feel welcomed to their new community.
