73-120: The Economics of the New Economy
The economic significance of the computer and information revolution, and the development of the internet and e-commerce, ie, "the new economy", is difficult to overstate. In this course we will try to determine whether standard economic principles can help us understand how this new economy works and how the future of the new economy might evolve. By studying a wide variety of real-world problems ranging from individual household decision making to the behavior of multi-national businesses, students will sharpen their skills in economic reasoning, as well as develop the ability to apply economic principles to challenging new problems. Coursework will comprise a combination of directed classroom discussions and debates, independent research, and workshop-style presentations.
