03-101 A4: DNA and Protein Sequence Analysis
We will read and discuss classic papers describing computational methods for analyzing biological sequences. These will include papers on optimally aligning two sequences, searching sequence databases for related sequences, searching DNA sequences for potential protein-coding regions, and predicting protein properties from sequence. No prior knowledge of computational biology is required, but thorough reading of the papers and active participation in discussion will be expected from all participants.
