  2. University web developers with Search Carnegie Mellon forms like the one in the left-hand frame of this document. (this is me)
  3. University web developers who want to add the Search Carnegie Mellon service to their pages for the first time. (this is me)

Transitioning your hyperlinks

Webmasters who currently link to http://search.web.cmu.edu must change their links to the new home of Search Carnegie Mellon, http://www.cmu.edu/search/. Search services at http://search.web.cmu.edu/ are being decomissioned Monday, April 23.

Transitioning your search forms

University web developers who currently employ the Search Carnegie Mellon web form on their pages must transition their forms to the Google-powered system by Monday, April 23.

Passage of HTML like the one below will soon be obsolete:

<!-- ########BEGIN THE SEARCH FORM######## -->
<HR SIZE=1 WIDTH=90% ALIGN=LEFT>
<FONT FACE="geneva, arial, helvetica, sans-serif" Size=-2>
<FORM METHOD="GET" ACTION="http://search.web.cmu.edu/compass">
<!-- Use ui=sr to switch to the Search Results UI on form submission -->
<INPUT TYPE="hidden" NAME="ui" VALUE="sr">
<!-- Use view-template to indicate which template to use on the ui=sr page -->
<INPUT TYPE="hidden" NAME="view-template" VALUE="basic">
<B>Search <nobr>Carnegie Mellon:</nobr></B><br>
<INPUT TYPE="hidden" NAME="search-category" VALUE="ROOT">
<INPUT TYPE="text" NAME="scope" SIZE="15"><br>
&nbsp;<INPUT SRC="http://www.cmu.edu/home/images/search_small2.gif" ALT="Search" ALIGN=middle WIDTH="60" HEIGHT="21" VSPACE="3" TYPE="image" BORDER="0">
&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<A HREF="http://search.web.cmu.edu/search-help.html">Help</A>
<HR SIZE=1 WIDTH=90% ALIGN=LEFT>
</FORM>
<!-- ########END THE SEARCH FORM######## -->

This must be replaced by the HTML cut below by April 23, 2001:

<!-- ## Search Form Begins ## -->

<HR SIZE=1 WIDTH=90% ALIGN=LEFT>
<FONT FACE="geneva, arial, helvetica, sans-serif" Size=-2>
<FORM method=get action=http://www.google.com/u/cmu>
<INPUT type=hidden value=cmu.edu name=sitesearch>
<INPUT maxLength=255 size=15 name=q>
<INPUT SRC="http://www.cmu.edu/home/images/search_small2.gif" ALT="Search" ALIGN="middle" WIDTH="60" HEIGHT="21" VSPACE="3" TYPE="image" BORDER="0"><br>
&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<a HREF="http://www.cmu.edu/search/index.html">Help</a> </p>

<!-- ## Search Form Ends ## -->

Which is rendered as:

   Help

Note that visually there is no change, so there will be no need to make any changes to the layout of your page(s).
