Application Requirements

CMU-R is open to students from all countries, but we target students from the East African Community (EAC) in our recruiting. CMU-R recruits and admits students in accordance with the standards and policies applied to applicants of the main campus.

To apply, fill out the online application form through ApplyYourself. Applications are now being accepted. The deadline for submission is April 21, 2012. Please note, the $65 application fee is not applicable to this program.

Late Applications

Late applications will be considered pending available seats. We encourage interested students to submit their application as soon as possible to increase their probability of admittance.

You will be asked to submit the following documents during the online application process:

  • Unofficial academic transcripts from previously attended universities
  • Three letters of recommendation from people such as managers, professional colleagues, professors or academic advisors
  • Current resume
  • Official GRE General Test Score Results: 
    • Use the Department Code 0000 and the Institution Code 8847 for GRE score reports to be sent to CMU
    • Only GRE General Test is accepted; neither the GMAT nor GRE Subject Tests are accepted for admission evaluation
    • Learn about the GREs
  • Official TOEFL: 
    • All applicants are required to take either TOEFL if English is not their native language, except for students who have earned their complete B.S. degree (all four years) in the United States.
    • Use the TOEFL Institution Code: 8847 and Department Code: 99 for TOEFL score reports to be sent to CMU.

The next available paper-based GRE revised General Test will be offered on February 11, 2012 at the School of Finance and Banking in Kigali. The computer-based GRE revised General Test is offered year-round in Kampala at Cyber Networks LTD. Please visit the GRE registration site to get the full schedule of test dates and international test centers.

Please also note that GRE and TOEFL score results will still be accepted after the application deadline pending available seats.

Our educational partner, Bridge2Rwanda, provides GRE and TOEFL training classes. The classes are taught by certified trainers including access to weekly classes, computer labs, course materials, and one-on-one tutoring. Please check their website for additional details. Free GRE and TOEFL practice materials are also available at the American Embassy's Educational Advising Center library.

All of the above documents are required to complete the online application. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Official transcripts are also required before accepted applicants can be admitted. If needed, Carnegie Mellon will request these be sent after all online applications have been reviewed.
