Executive Education

Carnegie Mellon University in Rwanda (CMU-R) has launched an Executive Education series with courses offered throughout the year. These courses, that will be scheduled on request, will challenge participants to examine key topics and strategies in the dynamic ICT industry within the African context. Targeted for both executives and mid-career professionals with a strong background in business and technology. The courses are tailored to strengthen careers in leadership and innovation.

COURSE OVERVIEW:


Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Planning and Implementation are foundational and umbilically connected elements of the process to protect critical corporate data and resources.

The challenge that faces organizations is the need to understand the nuances of these two foundational strategies and at the same time strike a balance between the level of business risk they can tolerate and the cost of perfect data security to minimize exposure.

BIO: Zain Khan, CMC is the Managing Consultant & President of Alliances Consulting Group Inc. of Canada, and is a Certified Management Consultant through the Canadian Association of Management Consultants (CAMC). He has over 30 years background in the ICT sector having worked in major telecom carrier in Canada and as well for a global consulting firm managing the telecom practice prior to his establishing Alliances. In the African context, he has conducted many strategic consulting engagements and capacity building workshops for government and the private sector. Specific to Rwanda, he has been working with the Ministry of Youth and ICT and has lectured at CMU R as a guest lecturer. Zain understands the issues on Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery planning from both a strategic and operational perspectives.

In this seminar, senior executives in charge of the strategic direction of their enterprises will learn about the new generation of information technology that is profoundly changing the business landscape: social networks and social media, cloud computing, mobile internet device, big data and open data and new business models like crowdsourcing, long tail marketing, and digital marketing.
In the seminar we'll speak about the new impact of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in Africa and how data and information can be transformed into strategic assets for business decisions.
The participants will understand how the use of these new technologies can make their business more competitive.

Prof. Michel Bézy, Associate Director, CMU-R

BIO: Michel Bézy has more than two decades of experience in developing business strategy for market introduction of emerging innovative software technology and has been working with executives in enterprises to understand the value of emerging technology for their business. Prior to his current position, Dr. Bézy worked for IBM Corporation for 25 years. He was program director for Cloud Computing solutions, business development manager in IBM Research, strategy manager for IBM Autonomic Computing technology and IBM WebSphere platform and marketing manager for IBM Digital Library. Dr. Bézy has a degree of Engineering in Applied Mathematics from the Université Catholique of Louvain in Belgium, a Master Degree in Sciences from Carnegie Mellon, and a Ph.D. in Applied Mechanics from the Université Catholique of Louvain.
