Mark S. Redfern is professor and associate chairman of the Department of Bioengineering at the University of Pittsburgh. He has secondary appointments in the School of Medicine (Otolaryngology) and the School of Health and Rehabilitation Science (Rehabilitation Science and Physical Therapy). He is also director of the Human Movement and Balance Laboratories. He received his Ph.D. in bioengineering from the University of Michigan in 1988. His graduate work focused on biomechanics and electromyographic modeling. Previous to his graduate education, he trained and worked as a certified prosthetist with clinical responsibilities in upper and lower extremity amputee care. Professor Redfern?s current research focuses mainly on human postural control, fall prevention in the elderly and occupational biomechanics. He has more than 60 peer review publications and 18 book chapters. He has served as a grant reviewer for NIH and other research funding agencies in the U.S. and Canada. He is associate editor for Clinical Biomechanics and Gait & Posture.
