Heather Markham is a doctoral student at the University of Pittsburgh. She is working with Dr. Bambi Brewer investigating how individuals with disability can interact with home robots in a safe and intuitive manner. In 1990 Ms. Markham earned her BS in Elementary Education from Texas A&M University and in 2000 she earned her MS in Computer Science from Midwestern State University. From 2002 to 2007 Ms. Markham worked as an Electronic Warfare Engineer at Edwards Air Force Base, California. During that time her passion for addressing and correcting physical accessibility issues for people with limited mobility increased, leading her to move to Pittsburgh to pursue her PhD in Rehabilitation Science and Technology.
